Pimples or acne is caused by skin cells and oil that block hair follicles. Bacteria forms in the hair follicles thus causing acne. Acne is the result when the body’s immune system tries to attack the bacteria. Some medicine interferes with this by keeping hair follicles unplugged. Some medicine also helps the skin to exfoliate which increases skin cell turnover. Other acne medications kill the bacteria on the skin. These medications are antibiotic creams. Acne affects many people.

People with acne will tell you that sometimes they go through a lot of different treatment options before finding the one that works for them. The process is often tedious and frustrating. There are what seem like millions of over the counter products for acne on the market. That should tell you how many people are afflicted with this skin condition. Over the counter acne medications does not work for some acne sufferers. While some people’s acne clear up well with over the counter products. Many people find that infomercial or department store acne products clear up their skin moderately well. Some people decide to get prescription acne medication from a dermatologist. Some acne sufferers do not do well at all from topical treatments. Therefore, some acne sufferers have to take oral treatments for their acne.
